You can only eat so much ngiri. What do you do with the rest of the hunk of meat?
I try to stay away from the stove of evil oil burns so here are some ideas that just involve mixing (my kind of "cooking"). No searing required! It's one fancy schmancy step up from your pb&j.
TUNA TARTAR
This is Jbear's favorite appetizer. We got it at Cliff House in SF for $17 (85 chicken nuggets from wendys)!!! And it was served on white toast! Yes they use pine nuts, mint, asian pears, habanero infused sesame oil quail egg, but shoot I made my own version that could feed 20 (or two hungry bears) for less than $10. Thank you Marina Foods for your cheap produce and meat.
Cliff House - Tuna Tartar
I used this recipe: cdkitchen
Sesame Wonton Crisps
12 wonton wrappers (way better than white bread)
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons sesame seeds
Tuna Tartar
6 ounces sushi-grade tuna, cut into 1/4-inch dice
2 tablespoons green onions, green parts only, finely chopped
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon peeled and grated fresh ginger
1 clove garlic, minced
3/4 teaspoon orange zest
2 tablespoons cilantro, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 avocado, cut into 1/4-inch dice
2 teaspoons lime juice
Cilantro sprigs for garnish

[side story: we went to cliff house for lunch thinking we were doing dine about town (arguably, the best part about January). only $18 for lunch! always read fine print! it only counted Sun-Thur and we went on a Saturday. so our $36 meal ended up being closer to $70. we didn't even order drinks! most expensive lunch ever!]
but we did get this!
Butterscotch Pots de Creme
If you ever go to Cliff House totally get this!
