Consumer

“We’re consumers. We are bi-products of a lifestyle obsession. Murder, crime, poverty, these things don’t concern me. What concerns me are celebrity magazines, television with 500 channels, some guy’s name on my underwear.”

Know what I'm referring to?

Jbear got a new sound system so his entertainment system is finally complete.

What a guy.
Mismatched couches, probably picked up from the side of the road, and two bowls, one chipped.
But I can see every flaw MAC is trying to camouflage on each reality star's face.
And the intro to COD feels like I just paid to experience a bit of Hollywood.

On to the next room?
I enjoying perusing the pages of Dwell but I think I could live with mismatched couches.
I like that about him. Some things just aren't so urgent and important.
Majority of the world lives on much less.

Back to the question.
Fight Club (10th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray]

Yup. Fight Club.
I got him his favorite movie to test out the system.
How fitting.
A film raging on consumerism in celebration of his new purchase.

“The things you own end up owning you.”

Hyperphaghia

I didn't need it. But when you see those words you suddenly grow another stomach.
Bacon.
Gelato. Correction: vanilla gelato.
Chocolate chip crumbles.

Hungry all over again.

Pasta pomodoro you amaze me.
I should stop watching Garfield. Maybe the lasagna cravings will go away.

Logorrhoea/Logorrhea

Excuse my verbal diarrhea. It's technically Logorrhoea.

{excessive flow of words; wordiness; prolixity; excessive and often incoherent talkativeness}

Talking is overrated anyway.

Hope you had a Happy St. Patricks Day!

Lunch is evil

Half the day is home and I have yet to completely check off anything on my growing to-do list. Maybe I should put in more things that are pure givens as motivation for the important items.

Maybe I didn't get a flu shot or send out my project or get quotes BUT I DID eat a cookie, check email, finish my project (where is that flash drive?), wrestle with the urge to go to starbucks, and get a big hug. One of those let's just forget about that silly to-do list right now kind of hug. Too bad lunch doesn't last all day. It's like the teaser samples at costco before you realize the delicious morsel belongs to a cheesecake with 198463289052 calories per serving and costs more than you can afford. Sometimes you wish you hadn't tasted it because now it's all you're craving.

prayers for japan

Good morning!

Just wanted to share what has been shaking me all morning.

I found out from emails between my mom and brother.
How did you hear?

If you haven't heard the news there was a 8.9 earthquake off the coast of Japan this morning that triggered massive tsunamis. I don't know about you but earthquakes scare me, really scare me. I remember the devastation of 1999 Taiwan earthquakes and that was a 7.7. When I visited the Puli area a year after, they were still rebuilding. When I visited NOLA a year after katrina hit, they were still rebuilding (and parts still are). After all those donations and celebrity outreach, Haiti is still hurting. You get my drift? These things don't quickly go away. Please keep the country and its people in your prayers.

If you have ever visited, you know it is a beautiful country with many shrines. If you've heard missionaries to the area, majority of the people do not profess belief in religion or follow Buddhist or Shinto traditions. In times like these a country needs healing physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Despite all the horrific details, people tend to focus on only what directly affects them. I was particularly worried for a friend from Fukushima. Just a few weeks ago we were shopping and laughing. What joy is a new pair of shoes (I got some too) if your house and shoes get washed away. Big reminders of where to store your treasures. The name of that town suddenly means something to me. She mentioned major toyota plants are located near her town and I've been test driving cars lately. Reports say many factories have shut down due to damage from the quake. In this world, we are all connected you know?

One dash of compassion.
A sprinkle of prayers.
Stir in some action.
