East Coast prep.

How do East Coasters do this?!?

I have no idea what to prepare for.
I always thought the east would be colder than the west this time of year.
But the weather forecast has thrown me for a bit of a loop.

Boston, MA - High 86F
Silicon Valley, CA -  High 65F

Yesterday the forecast said thunderstorms.
Today it says temperatures mostly sunny in the 70-80's.

Now I have to repack!

I tried them on.

There is a sudden spring in my step.

Forget easy tones and tight thighs.

I want to walk on a lasagna layer of cushion.

Use coupon code 1CDMA5 for 15% off. (good till 5/31/10)
Free shipping + no tax for CA.
Final price: $73.07 - 72.22

Review: I like.
I wish I could jump all day in these shoes; I have springs on my feet. I tried to wear them walking but when you go heel to toe they propel you forward so I actually did end up running (amazing!) but they were so cushy I did not care.

Update: Holy mesh!
The mesh material on the upper portion of the shoe is very thin. Good for breathing bad for resilience. Anytime I was jogging and the side of my shoe scraped against a rock or a bush the mesh would rip. I think the newer versions have changed the mesh material to a thicker, heavier duty material.

Pedicures with Gracie.
Hello lollipop toes!

We were a bit hesitant to go to a well-rated salon called Hand Job (located in the Castro) and ended up at a well-reviewed less provocatively titled salon.

We spent much effort trying to explaining when to use gerunds (-ing verbs) to my pedicurist but Grace and the lady on the other side of me kept comparing it to French and I have not studied any English grammar in over a decade... I think we confused the poor girl even more. English has to be one of the most confusing languages on this planet because my explanation for conjugations and placement of words always seems to be "that's just what sounds right". I am glad it is my first language.

Celebrated the graduation of our muffintop lawyer with strawberries and cake. I was expecting champagne and not so many lawyers.

I loved how the man handing out diplomas treated every person on stage so cordially, he shook the hands of graduates, parents, fiances and babies all the same.

At the end of the day

I came back
for this one.

Love Your Lips.

Lips are for
... puckering after a sour apple
... licking when you see something delicious
... pouting when you don't get your way
... biting when you are nervous
... kissing those you love
... stretching into a smile
... coloring.

I always considered myself a chapstick/lipgloss girl.

Lipstick?

That's for grownups.
It smears on your drinking glass.
You have to stay in the lines.
What is the point of lipliner?
Does it have to be red?

But

ever since I tried this stuff for my lips...
Rosebud Perfume Co. Smith's Rosebud Salve .8 oz

Goodbye dry, flaky lips!

I can finally use lipstick.

various acquisitions in the last month

I guess I am finally a grownup.

I am surprised how moisturizing some of them are!

My favorite so far is
Korres Mango Butter spf 10

Korres Limited Edition Mango Lip Collection

all natural ingredients. sheer tint of color.
smells like heavenly candy.
i wish i could eat it.

I'm thinking of trying to sell my natural purple in my ecrater store but I don't know if people would actually buy cosmetics on a site like that. I'm still trying to give it a try thanks to sus.

ecrater.com is a new online marketplace that does not currently charge any fees.

I have only had luck with shoes so far.
So I decided to add a few more cute/retro-looking shoes!

Smelling Roses

This past week's bible study topic was
SLOW DOWN AND CELEBRATE

We have a disease.
It's called "Hurry".
We are always hurrying everywhere, all the time.
If you are a person, when approaching a red traffic light with one car already in each lane, you try to judge which car will be faster based on make, model and year of both cars...
you might be infected with Hurry Disease.

Apparently I am.
Experience has taught me not to underestimate the speed of UPS trucks.
What is the point of being so rush?
Why cause yourself anxiety?
Over a few minutes.

Take time to smell the roses.

God commands JOY!
Rejoice always.
Why waste a few minutes fuming over a telemarketer interrupting dinner?
Sing.
Dance.
Be silly.

I decided to take pictures of things that made me smile.
AT THE MALL

these top shoes are covered in faux fur.
why? i have no idea. do people enjoy petting their feet?
some of us just aren't blessed with feet hairy enough to warrant petting.

squiggle shoes!

banana runts were my favorite.
back when i truly enjoyed eating pure sugar + artificial flavoring.

Hella Pregnant

My “gym clothes” should be renamed to “pie delivery uniform”.

Today I thought I was going to finally climb Mission Peak.
Oh silly me. It just isn’t going to happen.
I'll see you later.
Instead, Jbear and I ran errands; including going to Marie Calendar’s to pick up a pie for Franz’s belated moving out/housewarming party. I have always been a big fan of MC’s strawberry pie. And banana cream pie never disappoints. Did you know they now have a Strawberry Banana Cream Pie!?!? It’s like their two best pies had a delicious hybrid baby so no will ever say no to pie again, ever.

hello beautiful creation!
So we rushed around all morning wearing exercise clothes, but did not do any exercise, and ended up back at Jbear’s place with a pie in hand. Last time we went for a walk, we ended up at Safeway and came home with a frozen Claim Jumpers Banana Cream Pie.  Do not let people’s athletic attire fool you into thinking they are actually athletic people.
Franz’s belated lunch, over one year late, did not disappoint.

Oh how I ate. I ate so much there was no room to squeeze any pie.
Yes, I was THAT full.
No-room-for-pie-full. This is serious.  And apparently it shows.
After watching last week’s episode of Glee (Hello MC Hammer!) we rushed back to get my car from the auto shop. Once again, my simple oil change turned into the appetizer for more work. The main course turned out to be completely redoing my rear brakes. My brakes have been having problems for the last two years.
[First my front ones needed the pads changed. Then they were squeaky. Then I got different brake pads. Then I got a 90k checkup and they said I had to change the rear ones. Then it was hard to press. Then it was squeaky again. Then one day it sounded like the wheel from Wheel of Fortune. Someone had put something on upside down?!? Then Wheel of Fortune had a rerun a month later. Something had loosened and it was tightened but still squeaky. This is just my brakes; let’s not even mention when my front bumper got pulled off.]
Aiya! Haha, my car definitely keeps my life interesting but can be terribly expensive. City people are totally missing out! After 4 different auto repair shops and $500 later I can say they are finally fixed!
I went to Economy Auto. I think the guys running the place are Cantonese. They have been good with the oil changes so I figured I’d let them try fixing my brakes. When the main office guy was charging my credit card, I heard him say something “expecting mother” something. I figured oh he must be making small talk about upcoming Mother’s Day. I told him I was not expecting my mother for Mother’s Day because she lives far away. After we left the office, JBear burst out laughing.
Apparently,
my empire waist shirt + housewarming lunch = me looking hella preggers.
Soprano Plus Size Top, Cold Shoulder Empire Waist jazz blue 3X
Say WHAT!?!?
That's it. I am done with empire waist clothing.
Sigh. I need to stop skipping Mission Peak. At least my brakes are fixed. They push so nicely and no longer produce a shrill chorus line with every stop. Smooth as buttah! I hope it lasts!
Butter now in stick form? People should just use this as their lipstick so you don't even have to bother putting it on all your food.

Overall Day
Praise God for renewed brakes and yummy food to eat.
Boo for what food does to my tummy.

Oh well, I’m at Starbucks now and it’s time to get some work done!
Half off frappaccinos 3-5pm until May 10!

Happy National Day of Prayer - Will it Last?

National Day of Prayer has been a federally-recognized tradition since 1952.
Over half a century, on the first Thursday of May, the President of the United States has asked citizens to pray for the country and give thanks.

Last month a U.S. District Judge in Wisconsin declared the event unconstitutional.

Judge Barbara Crabb wrote,
"It goes beyond mere 'acknowledgment' of religion because its sole purpose is to encourage all citizens to engage in prayer, an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function in this context,"
and thus violates the First Amendment's establishment clause banning the creation of a "law respecting an establishment of religion" in the Constitution.

The Justice Department has appealed and Judge Crabb allowed this year's National Day of Prayer to continue as planned during the appeals process.
If unsuccessful, this year's event may be the last of this 58-year long tradition.

I know many of my peers do not keep up with current events.
If you have not noticed, religious practices and religious-related are symbols have been under attack. It seems in this historically Christian nation, non-religious advocates are becoming emboldened to purge communal spaces of anything "religious".

The prosecution in this case was the Freedom From Religion Foundation, advertised as the largest freethought association in North America. Private days of prayer are not objected, but federal support of such a day would make it seem the government is forcing religion onto unbelievers.

The debate between church and state appears to be teetering back and forth. To accuse of an underlying religious intent is a serious accusation.

Mojave Desert cross on Sunset Rock
Source: justice.gov

Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled lower courts went too far when ordering the dismantling of a cross on public land honoring World War I soldiers. The cross in the Mojave Desert had been there for 70 years. Though using differing rationales, Justice Anthony Kennedy identified the main consensus to be- although the cross is a Christian symbol, the intention was not to send a Christian message, and "those who erected the cross intended simply to honor our nation's fallen soldiers." "The goal of avoiding governmental endorsement [of religion] does not require eradication of all religious symbols in the public realm." This case had been taken all the way to the nation's highest court.

 Arlington National Cemetary
They have different emblems for different religions. Here.
Atheist, rationalist, secularist, skeptic, laique, ethical cultural, freethought and similar individuals fall under Humanist.

Had the decision been different, would all the crosses in all government-funded memorials and cemeteries have to be removed? Ruling out religious intent, the case goes back to lower courts as others try to ensure other religions are ensured equal treatment. Park Services had previously refused to allow a Buddhist shrine be erected in the Mojave Desert. I think the non-religious community is interesting in that it seems the most outspoken groups are those who are anti-religion and attack anything that may have religious implication while others preach tolerance and whatever you believe can be true for you.

My opinion is that Christians have had it relatively easy in this country. The practice of Christianity in the United States does not immediately conjure up the fear of persecution, torture or out-casting commonplace in other societies. Even non-Christians can wear crosses as a fashion item or step into a church for a funeral or wedding or social event without having to really make a decision about what they believe. If the government does side with the anti-religion sect, yes it may take away longstanding traditions but there is nothing fear, we should never - Christians have fared far worse treatment in history and yet have managed to thrive.

Apostle Paul actually saw persecution as something to be expected, even a good thing.

35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
36As it is written:
   "For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
Romans 8:35-36

3We ought always to thank God for you, brothers, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing. 4Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.  5All this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.
2 Thessalonians 1:3-5

32Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. 33Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.  35So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
Hebrews 10:32-35

We Pray [as recorded for National Day Of Prayer] (Album Version)

I guess this is just one more thing to pray about.

Mission Peak = FAIL

What happens to a plan deferred?

Does it get pushed to another day?
Replaced by a free waffle cone from tcby?
Not today.
Once again my coupon gets turned down because the image did not print.
I need a new printer.
-.-

But I did get a nice walk around Great Mall.
My feet are now sore.
I wish I had worn a pair of these
Reebok Women's Zig Pulse Running Shoe, Orange/Bright Codmium/Yellow,10 M US
Reebok's new Zig Pulse shoes
aka Squiggle Shoes!!!

They make me smile.
Just looking at them
makes me
^________^

I added them to my Amazon Associates store.
You can access is under a few of my favorite things.
I think is someone purchases something through the store I get something, but I like how its so convenient to add pictures to my blog and pick out things I like. If you do visit, beware it is a rather random assortment of goods. I was thinking of important themes and ended up with entertainment, fitness and disaster preparedness. Amazon sure does have all their bases covered.

Does everyone but me know what to get their mothers for Mother's Day?
