Bet You Can't

Bet you can't lick your nose with your tongue.

But
I know someone who can.

Silly puppy.

Silly puppies

My baking session was interrupted by barking.

Sami is the only barker. Hiro is a whiner/howler and he only does this when Sami leaves him behind or doesn't want to play with him.

Sometimes it's a squirrel or another animals and sometimes passerbyers. I used to be scared of dogs barking behind fences. When I was a child, there was one dog behind a long stretch of fence (houses in Texas have big backyards) around the corner from my house and on the way to the park. One day I was walking with my grandpa to the park. When the dog started barking my grandpa yelled out in a big booming voice "SHUT UP!" The dog immediately ceased barking and let us walk by in silence. My grandpa used to work in railroad construction and had quite a bit of practice yelling over dynamite explosions. In that moment I thought my grandpa was the strongest, most powerful man on earth. Even the scary dog listened to him.

What could Sami be barking at?

About fifteen minutes earlier, Jbear gave each of them a busy bone. Busy bones are treats made of meat wrapped in raw hide. They seem to last longer than most dog treats. Sami's jaws are so strong she chomps, breaks it up and devours it within five minutes. Hiro takes his sweet time licking, chewing, tossing it around and can make it last for half an hour to an hour.

Hiro: Mmmm this bone is soooo delicious!

This is agony for Sami. She can smell the busy bone. She wants the busy bone. Even if its in Hiro's mouth. She has no shame (or adversity to germs).

When he's within reach she climbs all over him and tries to bite the busy bone if its sticking out of his mouth. If he's not within reach, she barks.

Sami: Give it to me!
Hiro: Try to reach me!

What a silly baby. She's greedy. If we give her a treat, she drops it in her safe spot that no one can reach then goes after whatever we are giving Hiro. We try to be fair. But she's the kid that doesn't care about fair. So she barks.

Sami: Look innocent, she's watching.

happy halloween

I planned to sleep this weekend after my Saturday morning tea party. Instead I ended up on a quest for a costume and actually (surprise!) found one that I liked and fit me. Duh-nananana-duh-nananana batgirl! Sami also got a bumble bee costume and a skeleton tshirt. Not quite Skeletor from 50/50 but this is her Skeletor look.

Happy Halloween!

My first trip (not to the vet)

once upon a time about a month ago...

Dad and cmi must have felt bad I was stuck in a cone for a week. After they took it off I got to spend all weekend with them!

We spent a lot of time in the car together. I mean A LOT! Sometimes I felt sick and wanted to sit in the front seat with them but they didn't let me. Boo. I found a pair of panda friends in the back to cuddle and sleep with.

After what felt like FOREVER! (and way past my bedtime) we arrived at Grandpa's house. There were two funny, little dogs. Boy were they tiny! They kept growling and barking at me. I thought one dog's eyes were about to pop out of his head when he growled. Boy did he look silly! I don't think hosts are supposed to bark at their guests.

I didn't bark back because I was busy looking for food. Boy is their dog food good! I also found half-eaten treats all over the house. The treats made me very thirsty. In the bathroom I discovered something called a sink. If I stand there long enough sticking out my tongue, cmi pulls on something and water magically appears out of a spout. Too bad my tongue doesn't reach or I would just get water myself. When she stopped giving me water I went to look for drinks on my own and drank something yummy called coffee. Cmi got upset because I stole grandpa's coffee but later gave me the rest of her milk. Mmm I love milk!

What a great house! I got to stay indoors and sleep indoors and everything! When I got cold at night I would cuddle with dad and snored along with him too.

The only problem was there was no grass or bark indoors to use as a bathroom. Good thing I am resourceful and pooped on some towels instead. Cmi saw me and did not think I was good. She kicked me out of the room.  I guess she didn't like me pooping on towels because it was gone when I came back. So the next time I pooped on the carpet when she wasn't looking.

Everyone kept telling me we were going swimming but no one told me what swimming was. It involves water. Normally, I love water. I love to drink it out of my bowl and get it all over the floor and lick it off my face when I am getting a bath. But no one told me this water was going to be COLD. I am a short haired dog. I do not like cold. Cmi said the water came from snow. I do not know what snow is but I bet it's cold.

I tried to get out but the rocks were big and slippery. It was very cold. Cmi and dad had to carry me over the giant granite boulders. I was very concerned for everyone in the water. Sometimes people disappeared under the water. I barked at everyone to get out so the water monster wouldn't eat them too. No one listened to me.

Later we went into the water under a different bridge. It was more shallow but still cold so I stood shivering with all four legs on one small rock. I put on my best sad puppy dog face and we went home.

Plan B for puppies?

"I just thought you were the type of girl who knew when to say when."

-Juno

It happened. I suppose it was bound to happen with an non-neutered male and non-spayed female.
Dogs will be dogs, even if they are only puppies. It's every parent/dog owner's nightmare.
Yes, The-Puppy-Formerly-Known-As-Prince was discovered to be violating baby Sami.
He may now referred to as that dirty older dog.

Jbear told Franz if she gets pregnant, his dog is getting kicked out.

Oh Sami, we warned you. Don't let those big blue eyes and face licks sway you.
We told you to be firm and wait until you had all your shots so we could finally get you spayed before you were allowed to even be near other dogs.

But this one? Really?

Thus far that animal hasn't proved to be the brightest bulb in the pack, but maybe he's still adjusting to his new surroundings and will grow some brains later. Let's just hope he didn't do the deed properly or his swimmers aren't the bright either and took a wrong turn or something.

Someone is so getting neutered this week.

Getting a firm lecture from dad.

The puppy formally known as Prince

Uncle Franz got a friend for me the other day (I just wanted another bone). He is a husky/alaskan malamute mix with piercing blue eyes, furry upright ears and cmi says his fur is softer than the inside of her Uggs (whatever those are). When I first met him at his old home I thought he was kind of cute. His name was Prince and he sniffed me and nuzzled my nose.

But then we got to my home.

Can you believe that dog went straight for my food bowl and ate ALL of it? Are all boys like this? Man, I was saving that for later. He also drank three bowls of water. And started playing with all my toys without asking me.

What kind of rude guest is he?
After he was getting a little too comfortable I wanted to show him that he was on my territory and he should probably leave now. I ran and jumped all over like a kangaroo.
Apparently, he didn't get the hint.
Uncle Franz locked him up in his crate during the night and he spent the whole night whining. Yup. He shouldn't have drank so much water.

Today I got my head stuck in his mouth. I'm not sure if I like him yet.

Uncle Franz doesn't like the name "Prince" but still hasn't decided on a new one yet. So for now, he is the puppy formally known as Prince.

P.S. Did I ever tell you I was named after a girl from a tv show?

Sami vs. Toy

Hi Everyone!

I'm feeling jumpy today. Dad said we had to go to get shots this morning. Cmi let me bring my green bone to keep me company. It's my favorite. (They tell me it's green, but I can't see color.) I just found out last week that if I bite it in just the right place she squeaks! Just when you think you know someone...

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5TBJ5hi9Wil9cW-GTodRgoDDbQo7V25jkf2MFiQHHmjBZQYPj-0bFv_Ob9N5HRrU15Ww-tmMLQ9QvmTFzsqpfxzDmQ3QjDljownURLQywEfreltJvnjmzH3gqlvnVK4_QaEnCFylgu_0/s1600/2011-07-23+09.59.48-705600.jpgI was sitting in the trunk with my green bone. I don't like sitting in the trunk and usually try to climb over. I might haveMy green bone must have peed so I really didn't want to sit in the back. I climbed over the seats and sat in the backseats for a bit. But I missed my bone and climbed back to the trunk and squeaked her lots of times to let her know I forgave her for peeing and making it smelly.

When we arrived at the pet store there was a long line of dogs. All ages. Every size. I've never been around so many dogs before! Dad and cmi usually don't let me near other dogs because I don't have all my shots yet. The doctor said I couldn't get my vaccine shots because it was too close to my last set of shots and I'm still too young for my rabies shot. I hope I get all of my shots soon. This is kind of hurting my social life.

Cmi got me some fancy fishy dog treats, a teething bone and a new toy.

This is my new toy. I call it Ball-meanie.

It doesn't squeak and it isn't in the shape of a bone.
It was very interesting at first...

But then dad and cmi stuck some milk bones and fish treats inside and I couldn't stop trying to get it to share with me.

My ball is very stubborn and doesn't like sharing the treats with me. That's why its a Ball-meanie.

Surrender Ball-meanie!
I'm stubborn too. She eventually shared with me.  Thanks!
Maybe I will change your name to Ball-friend if you keep sharing with me. But I will have to talk this over with my green bone.

Kind of like motherhood?

I've wanted a dog forever. My whole life.
I've never been sure about babies, but definitely a dog.
Jbear purchased one recently.

Originally, I was pretty upset for a number or reasons...
I didn't think we were ready, I wanted to adopt from a humane society, I didn't approve of the breed, I wanted to save up vacation time so we could stay home 24/7 while it acclimated to its new home, I wanted an animal-friendly job, I am anal about big decisions and like to do lots of research, etc.

But whatever happened has happened and I am accepting.
Actually, I'm completely smitten with the girl.
I find myself slowly becoming all "mothery" in ways I didn't think I would be.
Is this what motherhood feels like?
(except making them sleeping outside part...)

*I never thought I could love something so much.
*She makes me smile no matter what she is doing.
*I've been reading articles and watching youtube videos on training but am totally baffled and overwhelmed because people like to argue and have conflicting ideology.
*I spent an hour cleaning the bathroom she defecated and urinated all over and all I could think was "Yay! She finally went to the bathroom!"
*Jbear and I get excited about little things other people might not understand, like she finally discovered how to squeak her pet monkey.
*Jbear and I spend a lot of time discussing how to raise and discipline her and how many toys she's allowed to have.
*I say she's only allowed to have one toy but I sneak her a new one every day.
*After reading FDA recalls and warning letters to pet food facilities, I've been looking into natural food diets and how to cook homemade pet food. Poor Jbear complains that I don't cook for him and she'll stop eating her kibble.
*When I go to a store I go straight to the pet aisle and look at the pet supplies and forget about what I originally went there for.
*She is my wallpaper on my phone.
*I count down the hours and minutes until I get to go home and see her.
*We keep calling her "baby girl" instead of her actual name.
*My heart breaks whenever I hear her cry or I have to leave her or she doesn't want to sit with me.
*When she naps I think to myself "She's so beautiful. I can't believe she's mine."

Thank God she is a sweetheart and just wants to play and cuddle all day.
I wish she could stay this way forever.

(Wow, I'm totally going to be one of those worrying moms that sees her kids as babies forever. I am going to be so annoying.)

Sami at your service

Cmi has been busy researching about puppies. She says we're not allowed to go to the park anymore until I finish getting my shots. I have mixed feelings. I don't like going outside, especially for walks. I prefer sitting or sleeping on the couch. But yesterday, I saw some cute tennis players at the park and didn't want to leave.

Yesterday, cmi was cleaning up my potty accidents and didn't like it when I took the cleanup towels away from her. Dad was busy cooking and wouldn't share any okonomiyaki fries with me. Everyone was too busy to play. I decided to help out too so that we could finish chores and get to the playing!

Cmi was folding laundry but I wasn't very good at that. (I'm better at chewing on buttons.) Instead, my bone and I watched the clothes and made sure the clothes didn't move.

Stay! Good clothes!
Maybe I'll let you play with my bone... later.

Hello from Sami

Hello!

My name is Sami. I am a playful puppy that likes to cuddle. CMI is too tired to write lately because she has been too busy loving me. I've been busy too!

On Sunday, Dad picked me up! I was so excited to see him again! Last week he and cmi came to play and I cried when they had to go home. Now I get to play with them everyday! My mom and brother got upset at me last week and I got all scratched up. I had to leave my mom and brother and get shots all in one morning and nobody warned me! I was sad and groggy and didn't want to eat or go to the bathroom all day even when they took me out to walk 81564631 times. I took a long nap with Dad on the couch when I got home.

Dad took me to meet cmi in SF. We spent all day shopping for cool stuff. I liked my new harness so much I didn't want to take it off so the salesman could ring it up. It tastes good too! It is pink because that is my favorite color, just like grandma.

Cmi and dad gave me my first bath. I liked it so much because I get to lick the water when it runs down my face and I feel so clean afterward. Boy were cmi and dad surprised when I was clean and they found out I was actually brown and not black!

(Cmi also found out dad let me sleep on the couch and made him pinky-promise that I couldn't sleep on the bed with him... again. She bought me my own bed but I wish I could sleep on the couch all day.)
